Throughout summer 2017, Emery students experienced rewarding jobs and exciting activities. Emery/Weiner freshmen can often be found at summer camps, and sometimes seniors intern or work in a career path that they aspire to pursue.
Katerina Mangini worked at Theater Under the Stars. The program is a musical theater summer camp for children with disabilities where campers sang, danced, acted and worked on visual art. Katerina served as the River Summer Associate and as a music teaching assistant. She said, “It was one of the best and most meaningful experiences of my life. I have even agreed to continue as a teaching assistant during the year!” Katerina plans to utilize her music skills in her future.

Jessica Epstein adventured away to a sleepaway camp, Camp Birch Trail for Girls, in Minong, Wisconsin for eight weeks. Jessica said, "I made several new friends from different states and loved sleeping in a cabin with nearly forty girls.” Her favorite part of camp was the Fourth of July. In addition to the wild frosting fight, Birch Trail travelled to North Star Camp for Boys. Jessica cherished “mingling with North Star boys and eating hamburgers at the traditional cookout.”
Jillian Greenberg played tennis every day at the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center Tennis Center. She played approximately six hours daily to improve her game, including two practices per day with a lunchbreak in between, as she prepared for collegiate level tennis. Jillian proudly said, “I have been playing tennis since I was four years old and been competitive in tournaments since I was nine.” She is looking forward to stepping up her game to the collegiate level.
Katerina, Jessica,and Jillian all truly appreciated their summers. The girls gained valuable interpersonal skills, loved meeting new people, and practiced their passions.
