Something about Mary

When Mary Watters started to think about turning 70, she decided to have a big celebration, so she invited 95 women friends to a luncheon at Tony's. Celebrating at lunch were (pictured, from left) Marie Jahnsen, Shannon Watters, the birthday girl, Mary Naus, Ann Prisland and Janet Grochowski. The women are friends from all walks of her life, including the University of Wisconsin and graduate school at Princeton, her time as a psychology professor at the University of Houston, young motherhood, volunteering (for American Cancer Society’s Cattle Baron’s Ball, Houston Symphony, Houston Ballet, St. John’s School and more) and the present. Instead of flowers on the tables, the birthday girl decided to display 10, small, golden trees decorated with memorabilia from her life. Also seen in the mix were Anne Gorry, Molly Neff, Josie Brown and Gay Conor.
