Episcopal hosts an interim term the two weeks following winter break in order to expose the students to interesting topics that the curriculum doesn’t offer during the regular school year. This two-week experience is a chance to ease both the students and faculty into the school routine and structure, without overwhelming them by diving into straight-up schoolwork. With courses varying from cracking the formula of romantic comedies to a mini medical school, the options cater to every student’s interests. Students take two classes based off their preferences and one mandatory class that varies per grade. The freshmen take a technology heavy course, the sophomores explore the choices program, and the juniors begin working with college counseling.
This year’s interim was cut short due to the winter wonderland happening around the campus, but nevertheless it was still very worthwhile. As a junior, I got priority choice on my courses, and I ended up in “Love is Hilarious,” the romantic comedy class and “Intro to Yoga.” The romantic comedy class exposed me to the classics such as Say Anything and Serendipity; both movies exceeded my expectations by far. The final project was to write a rom com of our imagination.
In Yoga we learned about mind and body and how to take better care of ourselves. Both were very rewarding experiences that made my two weeks back at school more enjoyable than ever.
Junior Jackson Kelso admitted: “Interim is my favorite time of the year because it allows me to learn more about my interests in sports by taking classes such as baseball statistics and the ins and outs of the NFL."
