Friends on the court

Second-grade buddies Owen Moorad and Charlie Perez (pictured, from left) proudly display their trophies from the Junior Grand Prix tennis tournament at the Houston Racquet Club (HRC). The tournament was for players 12 and younger, in all levels of competition: red ball, orange ball, green ball and regular ball. Owen, a student at St. Francis Episcopal Day School, and Charlie, a Frostwood Elementary School student, finished the tournament together, in a tiebreaker in the orange-ball consolation bracket. After a great effort from both boys, Owen was the final winner, with a 4-3 victory. When they are not competing against each other, the boys enjoy taking lessons together and being part of the same team. The young players spend several days each week practicing at HRC, and participate in monthly tournaments.
