Not everybody at Lamar High School had winter break off. The school is currently in the midst of a $122.9 construction project and the construction crew, Gilbane, worked harder than ever to make progress over the break while no one was at school.
The construction started last spring to build a new four-story build and new athletic facilities and the construction project will optimally be over in 2019. The construction crew, Gilbane, has already demolished lots of the school and laid the foundation for the new one. The future of the project is looking bright because there have been no major delays and school is still running smoothly while construction is going on.
Gilbane recently placed T-buildings on the front lawn of the campus to accommodate students because some of the classrooms will be getting demolished during the second semester to clear space for the new building. Recently, the construction crew has made big progress placing down the steel beams which will be the backbone of the new building.
The school is excited about how nice the building is going to be but what they’re even more excited about is how it is going to improve the school’s academics. With a new emphasis on project-based learning, the student learning experience is going to greatly improve due to the new academic neighborhood environments of roughly 200 students each.
The students are also very excited about the new academic center as well as the new athletic facilities.
Lamar student Elliot Miller said, "I can’t wait for the new school building to be complete. It’s going to be very nice spending my years as an upperclassman in a brand new school.”
Lamar freshman Sophie Pastore said,” I can’t wait to be able to practice lacrosse and soccer on my high school’s brand new home turf. It’s going to be great to have brand new fields for sports my final years on varsity.”
Overall, the students and the faculty all seem to be very excited for this big change in scenery at Lamar High School. It seems clear that this new building is going to have a positive impact on the academics, athletics and quality of the campus.
