Spring Forest Middle School sixth grader David Kalwahli (pictured, left) won the silver medal in the 1600-meter run at the Joe DeLoach Youth Indoor Invitational at the University of Houston. A member of the FPR Speed track team, David and his fellow teammates were big winners at the event. Eighth grader Bruer Gilkey won the silver medal in the 55-meter sprint event, and eighth-grade twin sisters Sarah and Sophia Akpan medaled in the 400-meter, 200-meter and 55-meter events. Sarah won two gold and one silver medals, and is the all-time Spring Branch Independent School District record holder in the 400-meter and 200-meter events. Runners were inspired by University of Houston track coach and Olympic sprinter Joe DeLoach, who hosted the event.
