It’s graduation season! Whether you’re a senior in high school or in college, chances are, you’re going to want to take some graduation pictures. If you're getting yours done by a photographer, it might be nice to have some suggested spots in mind. If you're taking them yourself, here's a list of great backdrops to keep in mind.

Rice University

If you’re a Rice student like me, you’re pretty lucky that you already go to school at such a picturesque spot. Rice is the backdrop of many an engagement shoot, Quinceanera shoot, and graduation picture. The big, beautiful trees and stunning arches make for a collegial look. Just make sure to check out the guidelines and requirements for taking pictures.

Hermann Park

If you are near Rice and the Museum District but don’t want to go through the hassle of getting permission to take pictures at Rice, Hermann Park is close by with its picturesque scenery. From the big grassy hill near Miller Outdoor Theatre to the reflection pool, to the bridges spanning the lake, there are plenty of spots that will appeal to your nature-loving side! The Centennial Gardens are still blooming, too.

Discovery Green

Discovery Green is another great place to take pictures, especially if you want a little artistic flair in the background. Discovery Green features a few art pieces, including some rotating ones. It’s a great way to try out a bunch of different backgrounds.

Memorial Park

There are tons of places in Memorial Park to choose from, whether you want lots of greenery, winding paths or well-manicured spots. Take your pic!

Blue Trees

Originally part of an art exhibit, the blue trees off Waugh and Memorial are colored blue on their trunks and branches and make for a really artistic and interesting backdrop for photos.

Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park

The Waterwall is the backdrop for engagement photos and wedding photos all the time, but have you ever thought about it for graduation pics? Bring your cap and gown or stole for personalization.

Eleanor Tinsley Park

Off of Allen Parkway, Eleanor Tinsley Park is chock-full of great picture spots. There’s a great bridge off the running trail in the park near the AIG building that provides a great view of downtown Houston in the background.

Sugar and Cloth Color Wall

Located in EaDo, this wall features blocks of colors, and is the backdrop for many a well-liked Instagram post. If you’re looking for something more colorful and fun, this is a great spot.
