Duchesne Upper School students showed off their talent this November in Uncensored, a student-led variety show.
Ms. Britton, the Upper School drama teacher and coordinator of the event, describes Uncensored as the brainchild of students from the 2007 graduating class. It was created to allow Upper School students the opportunity to direct, write, choreograph, or act. Students are given the opportunity to perform a scene from theater, film, musicals or dance. For students interested in the performing arts, Uncensored is an opportunity to practice their craft in front of a live audience.
Just before Thanksgiving, Upper School students took a break from their busy class schedule to watch their classmates perform one-act scenes, sing and do a very funny comedic improv.
Angelina Chaluparambil, who performed improv in Uncensored, said, “I did Uncensored because I like acting. I’m taking an improv course this year, and this was our showcase. It was a lot of fun because my partner and I made it up on the spot, and it built our trust in each other. It was really special to be a part of something and to be able to entertain others.”
Ms. Britton said the commitment and preparation it takes are worth it because students are left with a sense of confidence and self-achievement. “There is nothing like live theater!”
This month, the Upper School students’ hard work definitely paid off with a series of performances that left the audience entertained.
