Focus on philanthropy

More than 1,000 filled the Hilton Americas Hotel for the Annual National Philanthropy Day Luncheon hosted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals – Greater Houston Chapter. This year’s theme recognized heroes, particularly those who helped so many impacted by Harvey. Honorary chair was Margaret Williams, and luncheon chairs were Marilu Garza with The Center for Pursuit and Amy Lampi with Theatre Under the Stars. Tom Koch, ABC-13, was emcee. Guests were greeted by the Brookwood Handbell Choir and the Salvation Army Harbor Light Choir. The event started with America’s Got Talent finalist Christina Wells singing the National Anthem. The luncheon raised more than $220,000 to advance philanthropy in Houston. Honorees included Phoebe and Bobby Tudor, Sidney Lynn Faust, Tom Moore, Amy Ragan, Kristen Schlatre, The Junior League of Houston, Zosia Sandweiss, Theatre Under The Stars and The River Performing and Visual Arts Center.
