Since 2016, every child at Texas Children’s Hospital have been surprised with a gift bag filled with fun hats, socks, blankets, toys and games – hand-delivered by Harrison’s Heroes volunteers on Thanksgiving Day. This, and many other events, were launched out of the vision of Memorial-area parents Sandy and Shanoop Kothari after the passing of their two-year-old son, Harrison. In 2010, Harrison was hospitalized and underwent surgery with a long-term stay at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital. His parents took turns by his side, attempting to maintain a positive outlook for the entire family. During their visits, their hearts were touched by other children with extended stays, many with few or no visitors except for hospital staff. In 2016, Harrison’s Heroes was founded in Harrison’s memory and in 2017, a fully stocked art studio and six mobile art carts were dedicated to Texas Children’s Child Life Center.
