It wasn’t just lunch, but it was the first time that Jeri Wolff and her energetic team, Doreen Leibovitz, Jani Lestin, Linda Buchman, Barbs Rosenfeld, Carolyn Bernell, Phyllis Cohn, Sue Sue Aron, Sydney Gold, Karen Harberg, Shirley Levine, Roslyn Margolis and Terrie Waughtal, created and pulled off a mah jongg tournament to benefit Type 1 diabetes research. The fun day that included lunch, door prizes and a silent auction from 18 restaurants and more raised $15,000. Twenty door prizes of rolls of five dollars’ worth of quarters in cute, zippered, flowered bags donated by Leslie & Co. made winners out of some losers. The biggest winners won $250 for first place and then $175 and $100 for second and third place. The checkout girls, Julie Atlas Taylor, Elizabeth Wolff and Mandy Kelvin, were worth a million bucks.
