Emily Hartzog's second grade class

Poe Elementary School students were treated to a surprise visit from Gus, star of The Life of Gus: The Dog with The Big Head by Sandee Roquemore-Maxwell. The children’s book features Gus, who spent some scary time on the streets. Second-grade teacher Emily Hartzog had been reading the book to her second-grade class (pictured) and discussing how to care for animals. The students were thrilled to meet Gus with his “mom,” Anna Barbosa, founder of K911 Rescue Houston, along with friend Janine Chalitsios.
