Victory on the mound
The 8U Tigers (pictured) are West University Softball Association (WUSA) champs. The second- and third-grade girls defeated the Wolves, 12-11, in a championship game that went into extra innings. It was a hard-fought game that ended when Violet Vu got a hit down the third-base line that allowed Madeline Spain to score the winning run. Coach Carlos Vaquero inspired the girls at practices with a team motto that contributed to their success: Come early and stay late. The winning Tigers are (top row, from left) coaches Chris Spain, Carlos Vaquero, Brad Loper, Cory Perrin and Michael Scheurich; (second row, from left) Maggie Marshall and Madeline Spain; (third row, from left) Caroline Loper and Natalie Perrin; (bottom row, from left) Isabella Vaquero, Violet Vu, Jessie Whitley, Sadie Gill and Turi Sceurich.
