Sky high
This summer, Robin Hamilton and fellow hang gliders Larry Bunner, Glen Volk, Mike Degtoff and Rick Mullins journeyed from the Gulf Coast to Canada, starting from the West Houston Airport. Robin has flown hang gliders for more than 30 years and flies competitively; he partnered with Komen Houston to raise awareness and funds to combat breast cancer. Robin lost his mother to breast cancer when he was 13. The X-Flight team executed their motor-less flight in daily stages until reaching the Canadian border, with stops in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana. They were airborne for 5-10 hours each day, flying at altitudes of up to 15,000 feet. For updates, see “X Flight: Gulf of Mexico to Canada” on Facebook. Pictured are (from left) Robin and Larry.
