Siblings on the national stage
Siblings Joshua and Naomi Alade (pictured, from left) both won national titles in taekwondo. Naomi, 11, is ranked No. 1 in the nation for the under-47kg female cadet division for Olympic Sparring Taekwondo. She holds the national title in Minneapolis, and also won the gold medal at the 2019 Pan American Cadet championship, defeating girls from Mexico, Brazil and Canada. She wrapped up the summer representing the U.S. at the Cadet World Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Younger brother Joshua follows in her footsteps; he won the USA Taekwondo championship in the under-40kg weight division, and also the Amateur Athletic Union Taekwondo championship. Both Naomi and Joshua train under Master Gianni Giambi of the Houston Center for Taekwondo, and have been competing since they were 4 and 5 years old.
