Representing in Uzbekistan
Naomi Alade (pictured) placed eighth in the world at the 2019 World Taekwondo Cadet Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Representing the United States in a group of 27 qualifying competitors, she had victories over Tajikistan and Australia before ultimately losing to Great Britain in the quarterfinals. Her final competitor went on to face the eventual gold medalist from Iran. At just 11 years old, Naomi competes in the 12-14 age group as the youngest competitor of more than 530 participants in the division. After returning home, she is ready to continue training for next year’s competition season, where she hopes to compete at the world championship again.
