The annual JOE Dinner was held last week at Emery to raise money for the school. JOE, meaning Joy of Education, is the biggest fundraiser of the year, where parents and donors come together in the Kosberg Gymnasium for a nice dinner.
The whole gym was transformed into a elegant dining area filled with decoration. A big way to raise money is having silent auctions and raffles that parents and Emery contributors can win. The big prize this year was the raffle to win two tickets to this year’s Super Bowl held in Miami. Many raffle tickets were bought, but there could only be one big winner, and that was a lucky sophomore and his family.
For entertainment, The Emery Jag Choir performed a few songs throughout the dinner, really impressing the guests with their vocal skills. Following the lovely choir, seniors Rebecca Berstein and Rachel Massett, who recently went to Israel as ambassadors of Emery, talked about their time at the Leo Baeck School in Haifa Israel. They went in-depth about the program and presented pictures and videos from their trip. It was definitely one of the highlights of the night. “It was a really beautiful presentation to listen to,” says Emery parent Margie Fields.
This year’s Joe Dinner was a huge success and ended up surpassing the fundraising goal by a lot. There was a huge turnout with people and it might have been the best JOE Dinner yet.
Kelly Hess says, “My favorite part of the dinner was seeing a large number of community members and support towards the school.”
With all the year-round events at our school, the JOE dinner is the one night when everyone in the Emery community, even the alumni, come together to honor Emery and show the love and dedication to the school.
