Band Together for a Change (BTC) is a charitable student-led band comprised of students from British International School of Houston. BTC is led by four Year 13 students: me, Freya Scott, Rachel Dsouza and Enen Chong.
Band Together for a Change officially started in 2019 with a couple of band members from the school community. Overnight, it grew to include a wide range of committed students who had various passions within the arts. As a group, BTC decided to ignite the passions its students have for the arts by fueling a fundraising month.
In March 2020, BTC will kick off its “March for the Arts“ campaign which aims to raise money for Fresh Arts, a local Houston arts charity. There will be a variety of school-based activities and events that will help achieve BTC’s goal, such as performances within school and in the community as well as a 5 Day Creative Challenge.

The 5 Day Creative Challenge will “challenge“ each curriculum department within the BISH community to incorporate elements of creativity into the set syllabus. Each department is given a “creative“ prompt in which teachers of a department must fulfill in different ways throughout the week. Although this challenge was made at BISH, BTC wants all Houston schools to take part in this challenge. To take part in the 5 Day Creative Challenge, just be creative within the classroom! Creativity can be implemented into any subject’s syllabus.
Band Together for a Change would also love if you could support their donation campaign. Click here to donate to Fresh Arts.
BTC’s fundraising month is only one small part of its bigger goal. In the future, members of Band Together for a Change hope to advocate the importance of the arts in the greater world.
