Golden gala
The 50th Anniversary Ballet Ball, chaired by Beth and Nick Zdeblick and honorary chairs Phoebe and Bobby Tudor, took place at the Wortham Theater Center and honored longtime supporter Margaret Alkek Williams. As a nod to the golden anniversary, Houston Ballet Academy dancers wore gold costumes from classic performances, and the décor felt like a glamorous golden palace. During dessert, company dancers surprised guests with a choreographed piece by first soloist Oliver Halkowich. Artistic director Stanton Welch AM and executive director Jim Nelson joined the surprise performance. The annual event raised nearly $1.8 million for Houston Ballet, making it the most successful Ballet Ball in its history. Pictured are (from left) Bobby and Phoebe Tudor and Beth and Nick Zdeblick.
