Shelby Lawson found the word “you” on former Frostwood parents Molly and Karl Holub’s driveway.

Frostwood Elementary families are all familiar with “pink piggy words.” The origin of the phrase is unknown, but pink piggy words are the label given to “sight words” – such as a, and, at, my, we, on, is, am – words that are staples for students learning to read. Each May, Frostwood kindergarteners enjoy a Pink Piggy-themed picnic. When the pandemic canceled this year’s event, some Frostwood parents, led by Melissa Wilmoth, created an alternate event: a word hunt through the neighborhood. The kids (some donning pig-themed crowns) took their list of sight words and walked around the neighborhood, searching for pink piggy words on driveways. Many families participated, even some whose kids were Frostwood kindergarteners many years ago. Shelby Lawson (pictured) found the word “you” on Molly and Karl Holub’s driveway.
