BHS scholarships
The Alumni and Friends of Bellaire High School awarded scholarships for the 2019-20 school year, based on academic achievement, GPA, class rank and community involvement. Receiving these scholarships were Morgan Cheng, who will attend The University of Texas at Austin, Sarah Birenbaum, who will attend Rice University, and Christopher Woodard, who will attend Northwestern University. The recipient of the new Cesar Cortes Scholarship – established in memory of Cesar, a JROTC member who was fatally shot at BHS in January – is Gytzelle Duran, who will attend Houston Community College. Another scholarship is given in memory of Sherry Senior, who taught math; this year’s recipient is Ben Mazzoni, who will attend The University of Texas at Dallas. Pictured are (from left) Gytzelle, Sarah, Cesar’s mother, Cecilia Diaz, Christopher, Morgan, BHS principal Mike McDonough, association vice president Rebecca Phillips and president Leslie Crossman.
