Home opener from home

Michael and Steve McDonough have never missed an Astros home opener game.

Since April 1979, this father and son always have gone to the Astros home opener together. Michael (on right) and Steve McDonough (on left) have never let hurdles get in the way of their special tradition. Michael, principal of Bellaire High School, says, “While I’m sure we’ve battled some colds/coughs along the way, we both have been resolute to ensure we always made it there together.” This year, although they were bummed that they weren’t able to cheer on the ’Stros from Minute Maid Park, they put on their masks, surrounded themselves with Astros gear and rooted for the home team from home.
