A break from cooking

Poe Elementary School students Luke Nguyen and Caroline Szulc (pictured, from left) picked up to-go dinner orders to raise money for the school’s PTO. The PTO organized a “spirit night” for families to take a night off from cooking dinner and instead get their meals from Local Foods in Rice Village. Families could drive through and pick up their meals to take home. For each dinner order, Local Foods donated 20 percent of the proceeds to the Poe PTO. The money raised will be used for classroom supplies, educational enrichment programs, need-based uniforms and supplies for students, and development of outdoor learning spaces.

Editor’s note: The Buzz congratulates our regular Buzz About Town writer, associate editor Jordan Steinfeld, and her husband Matthew on the recent arrival of baby Sloane. Jordan is taking a short break to spend time with Sloane. In the meantime, Buzz writer Angie Frederickson is handling this column. As usual, please send your high-res photos and community news to info@thebuzzmagazines.com. Items are published on a space-available basis.

Angie Frederickson is a writer and stay-at-home mom. When those worlds collide, she has been known to hide from her children in order to meet writing deadlines.
