Bellaire neighbors participated in Planting Palooza, a city-wide initiative to renew and expand horticulture around the community, sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Citizens Advisory Board and the Parks and Recreation Department. Events included an Earth Day Celebration and Tree Sapling Giveaway at Evelyn’s Park sponsored by Trees for Houston and underwritten by CenterPoint Energy; crafts, story time, and outdoor activities hosted by the Nature Discovery Center and the Bellaire Library; a pecan-tree dedication and ice cream sundaes at the Bellaire Library with Patrons for Bellaire Parks; Ask an Arborist with Barry Ward of Trees for Houston; and more. Neighbors participated in Family Planting Day, sponsored by the Bellaire Business Association. The Bellaire Culture and Art Board invited kids to participate in a coloring contest with a nature theme; winners were Miller Hill, 4, Simon Harrer, 6, Lila Harrer, 4, Bella Zhu, 10, Tyler Weston, 9, and Eli Hill, 8.
