The sanitation project
Covid-19 has had a profound impact on the world and my community. My family and I were able to get by without severe difficulties, but many people I know have struggled greatly. I wanted to be involved in the process of helping my community after Covid.
Although I wasn’t qualified enough to do significant research in the Covid-prevention effort for those affected by the pandemic, I could help prevent people from catching it, or at least reduce the chances of doing so.
I decided to organize a project based on helping people stay healthy and sanitary in order to stay as safe as possible.
First, I had to put together the necessary supplies for hygiene and Covid prevention. By reaching out to the Greater Houston Dental Hygienists' Association, I received dental supplies, sanitation materials, and other related items. In total, I collected 18 boxes full of dental and sanitary products that were ready to be dispensed. The project was a go.
With the supplies at hand, I began to reach out to hospitals, clinics, and homeless shelters. After some time, I received a response from the Harris Health Ben Taub Hospital, who expressed interest in my project. Soon after, I managed to communicate and set up a date for me to deliver the supplies, and finally met at the hospital to transport the goods.
The project was a great experience and an accomplishment that was deeply personal to me. Although we had been in a pandemic, I had managed to do my best to help those around me. It felt satisfying and uplifting to know that my efforts and the supplies would be a helpful benefit towards those struggling with the unique and often negative circumstances that Covid had put many of us in.
Even with limitations, it was still possible to do my best towards helping make the world a better place.
