Happy Friday and happy MLK Weekend! Here are some events going on this weekend including events on Monday in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.
Children's Museum Houston's Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration
Children’s Museum Houston honors Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and his legacy during their annual celebration on Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Special events include a peach march led by the Kid’s Committee, an oratory speech recital, and a video of the historic “I Have a Dream” speech. Activities include creating dream clouds, peace doves, and taking a pledge to be kind to everyone.
Yaga’s Chili Quest & Beer Fest
The 13th Annual Chili Quest & Beer Fest takes place Saturday at the Strand in Galveston. The festival includes a chili tasting, a chili cook-off, a beer fest, a 5K fun run, entertainment, vendors, and more.
2022 Annual MLK Birthday Celebration
Rothko Chapel, in partnership with Community Music Center of Houston, presents the 2022 Annual MLK Birthday Celebration. The event is now only available via livestream. Rothko Chapel’s Songs for Justice series - concerts and conversations exploring the role that music plays to further social justice movements - coincides with the Chapel’s annual observance of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday. The series opens with a performance of and discussion about music central to the US Civil Rights Movement. Chevron Houston Marathon & Aramco Houston Half Marathon
The Chevron Houston Marathon & Aramco Houston Half Marathon - the 50th annual Houston Marathon - takes place downtown this Sunday morning. Registration is sold-out for participants, but spectators are welcome to cheer on runners and join for RunFest at Discovery Green afterward. 2022 Original MLK Parade and Festival
The Black Heritage Society Organization presents the 44th Original MLK Day Parade downtown on Monday, kicking off at 10 a.m. The 2022 Grand Marshal is Vanessa Wyche, Johnson Space Center Director. The Houston MLK Festival, which features live music, kid-friendly activities, art, craft vendors, booths, food, and more, follows the parade and continues till 5 p.m.
2022 MLK Grande Parade
The 2022 MLK Grande Parade takes place on Monday, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in Midtown. The parade kicks off at San Jacinto St. and Elgin St. This year’s theme is social inclusion. The event will be streamed live on CW 39.
Volunteer Houston’s 2022 MLK Day of Service
Volunteer Houston invites individuals or groups to join for the 2022 MLK Day of Service on Monday. Volunteers will participate in a community art project to help create a MLK-themed mural to spread Dr. King's message of equity and inclusion. Find details here.
