Lemonade for a cause
Hi, it’s me! Myra Jackson. I am 7 years old. This is how I got my idea. Our dog, Pancho, died. My parents had him since before I was born. We were really sad. In honor of him we braided ropes for the Friends for Life dog shelter.
Then one day we got a lemonade stand as a gift. We colored it in for a month. Finally it was done. We had our lemonade stand. We adopted a new dog. His name was Flash, but we changed it to Gizmo. He is black and small.
We thought of how we loved dogs and decided to raise money for the dog shelter!
We made fliers. This is what we wrote: “Come to the Lemonade stand. 10-11am for the dog shelter.”
My family and I walked around the block and gave out our fliers. We went from house to house and knocked on doors and handed them out. Some people gave us money even if they could not come.
The next day our mom gave us fliers for school. We gave them to all our friends. My sister Prianna, who is in Pre-K, gave it to most of her grade. I gave them to the whole first grade.
Prianna wants to be a chef. She is 5 years old. She is really good at cutting lemons. She cut most of the lemons and squeezed them. We went shopping for cups. There was rainbow and green and yellow, also pink.
My sister and I made an obstacle course on the sidewalk with chalk. We wrote the time and date on the sidewalk so our neighbors wouldn’t forget.
The day of the lemonade sale was a success. The day was hot so we decided to sell popsicles and lemonade. The first customer was Elia Wolf. She bought three lemonades and one popsicle. The rest of the guests arrived. My friends helped me run the stand. We had to refill the lemonade. The most popular popsicle flavor was strawberry.
We raised $380 to give to the Friends for Life dog shelter.
My friend, Charlotte Radoff, felt inspired to make her own stand to give money to the dog shelter.
I hope other people want to give money to the dog shelter too.
