Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend
Happy Friday! The summer is starting to wind down a bit but that doesn't mean you have to! There are still tons of niche events happening around Houston that might just push you outside your comfort zone in the best way possible.
Houston World Series of Dog Shows
The Houston World Series of Dog Shows, held at NRG Stadium, educates the public about purebred dogs through a wide variety of competitions and events for 30 independent breeds. Events last from 8 a.m. through 6 p.m. through Sunday, so be sure to head on over and check out the adorable pups competing to be top dog. Tickets are $15.
Busy Bees on Buffalo Bayou
Come on down to Buffalo Bayou on Saturday from 9-11 a.m. and get a close up look at some of our hardest working pollinators in an observatory beehive at this free event. A gardening for bees activity will be led by El Centro de Corazón.
Princess Party at Children’s Museum Houston
Hear ye, hear ye! By order of proclamation from the Kingdom of Children’s Museum Houston, all royal kids are invited to don their crowns and jewels for a Disney princess-inspired extravaganza on Saturday, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Be sure to bring a camera and snag some photos of little ones alongside their highnesses Aurora, Ariel, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Belle and Jasmine. The event is free with $15 general admission to the museum.
Houston Dynamos vs. Minnesota United FC
Come watch the Houston Dynamos take on Minnesota United FC at PNC Stadium on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $13.
H.M.S. Pinafore 70th Anniversary
All aboard the H.M.S. Pinafore at Hobby Center for a night (or matinee) of music and laughter as the Gilbert & Sullivan Society performs this raucous comedic opera. A satirical love story that ultimately gives the audience a good happy ending, H.M.S. Pinafore is sure to keep you in stitches. The Saturday night performance starts at 7 p.m. and the Sunday performance is at 2:30 p.m. Tickets start at $29.
Flea By Night
If you’re in the market for handmade, vintage, or repurposed local goods and want to shop in the breezy outdoors, come to Discovery Green for an free open-air flea market on Saturday, 6-10 p.m., so get ready to shop locally sourced and Houston proud!
Brewsology Beer Fest
The Houston Museum of Natural Science is hosting dozens of local craft breweries and cideries amongst its exhibits during after hours programming on Saturday at 7 p.m. This event is perfect for those who have been craving a crisp ale and are dying to drink it while walking through the epic dinosaur skeletons exhibit. Tickets are available online starting at $50 for general admission and include samples of beer and full museum access.
National Tequila Day at El Big Bad
Celebrate National Tequila Day in style by heading over to El Big Bad, the world's largest infused tequila bar, on Sunday. Drink up and enjoy unexpected flavor combinations, ranging from churro to jalapeno tequila. General admission is free with RSVP, or you can buy $30 tickets to their tequila seminar.
