Houston Astros vs. Baltimore Orioles
The Astros take on the Orioles in a three-game series at Minute Maid, Friday, 7:10 p.m., Sat., 6:10 p.m., and Sun., 1:10 p.m. Sunday is the annual Dog Day, so bring your Astros Pup to Minute Maid Park to root for our ’Stros and participate in fun Dog Day activities. (In order to bring your dog to the game, purchasing a ticket for your pup is required. See more details here.) Game tickets start at $22.
Family Movie Night at Levy Park
Head to Levy Park for Family Movie Night sponsored by Texas Children’s Hospital, Friday, 8 p.m. and enjoy a free screening of The Mitchells vs. The Machines (PG).
Miller Summer Mixtape Series
The second annual Miller Summer Mixtape Series is a multi-genre, independent music showcase featuring top local acts presented by the Miller Outdoor Theatre and produced by Rukaz Kultura. The three-day series kicked off on Wednesday and culminates Friday evening, 8:15 p.m. Featured artists are: O’Shea Woodhouse, Uncle Tino, Mother Nature, The Hue, and Tony Badd (Fan Favorite).
La Zarzuela Vive Produced By Texas Medical Center Orchestra
The award-winning Texas Medical Center Orchestra will perform La Zarzuela Vive, a Spanish lyric-dramatic genre incorporating operatic themes, Saturday night at Miller Outdoor Theatre, 8:15 p.m. Led by Artistic Director Libi Lebel, the orchestra will be joined by the International Voices Houston choir and feature Ricardo Garcia and Jimena Montserrat as soloists. The Texas Medical Center Orchestra (TMCO) is one of the few orchestras with its origin in the health professions. Read more about it here.
Houston’s 186th Birthday Celebration
Happy (early) birthday, Houston! The Heritage Society at Sam Houston Park and Mister McKinney of Mister McKinney’s Historic Houston celebrates Houston’s 186th birthday on Saturday with free activities from 3-6 p.m. (Houston’s actual birthday is Aug. 30, 1836 but the celebration will take place on Saturday.) Mayor Sylvester Turner will cut the cake around 4:30 p.m. Learn about Houston’s history and celebrate its present and future. Tickets are $15 for adults; $12 for seniors; $6 for students ages 6-12.
Houston Dash vs. Washington Spirit
The Dash will take on the Spirit at PNC Stadium, Sat., 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $25.
Bellaire Open Air HTX Market and Young Artists Showcase at Evelyn's Park
Browse unique goods from local artisans at the Bellaire Open Air HTX Market at Evelyn’s Park on Sunday, 12-4 p.m. Then, AV Broadcasting presents the Young Artists Showcase, 5-8 p.m. Free to attend. Plus, cool off at the park’s new splash pad in between.
