Painting and learning
The New York Academy of Art selected 18 artists to participate in the “Constructing the Contemporary Narrative” workshop in Sag Harbour, New York. Local artist and art instructor at Rice University’s Glasscock School of Continuing Studies Ellen Orseck (pictured) was chosen and had the opportunity to work with Eric Fischl, an internationally known American narrative artist. Fischl is known for his 1970s and 1980s paintings of suburbia, and his work is featured in museum collections around the world. “The experience forever changed the way I will develop ideas for painting, moving elements around digitally to compile the most compelling and evocative image possible,” Ellen said. During the workshop, Ellen completed an acrylic on canvas titled “New Parents on the Beach.”
