Andrew Wilson and Patrick Mikkelsen put new books into backpacks and Victoria Villarreal helps a happy child put a new book into her backpack as part of the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation’s Young Professionals Group’s 9th Annual Tacky Sweater Party and Holiday Community book distribution. Group members read books aloud, and distributed books and backpacks to children attending San Francisco Nativity Academy of Houston. Book-filled backpacks were also distributed to children at House of Tiny Treasures and the Fifth Ward and Gulfton campuses of Small Steps Nurturing Center. More than 350 children received books to take home in time for the holidays. On the eve of the book-distribution event, a group of young professionals gathered to sort books and backpacks during the Tacky Sweater Party, wearing their tackiest holiday attire.
