Event Roundup: What to Look Forward to This Weekend
Happy Friday! There are lots of fun, springtime events going on around town. And, of course, we’re all buzzing with March Madness excitement. Here are some weekend highlights:
March Madness Watch Parties on Avenida Houston
Head to Avenida Houston downtown for watch parties, including music, basketball-themed activities, special guests from local media, and Men’s Final Four giveaways. Admission is free and opens 90 minutes prior to game tip-off. Tonight, watch the UH Cougars vs. University of Miami Hurricanes, 6:15 p.m. and the UT Longhorns vs. Xavier University Musketeers, 8:45 p.m.
Bayou City Art Festival
Bayou City Art Festival returns to Memorial Park, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Friday-Sunday. The festival will showcase the works of 280 artists in 19 different categories, and benefits local nonprofits. Meet the artists, view original works, enjoy two entertainment stages, food trucks, a craft beer and wine garden, and more.
Spring Plant Sale
Get ready to garden at Houston Arboretum’s Spring Plant Sale, including a variety of Texas natives. Proceeds benefit the Arboretum’s conservation and education efforts. The sale is going on today and tomorrow, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Sounds of Scotland
Saint Thomas’ Episcopal School celebrates their Scottish heritage with a live performance of world-renowned bagpipers, drummers, and dancers. Proceeds benefit the STES Scottish Arts program. Sounds of Scotland takes place tonight at Smart Financial Centre starting at 7:30 p.m., and tickets start at $55.
The Michael Jackson Experience
It’ll be a “thriller” of a night with The Michael Jackson Experience at Miller Outdoor Theatre, tonight, 8 p.m. An incredible cast of talented musicians and dancers will bring The King of Pop to life on stage. This performance features amazing renditions of Jackson’s biggest hits. Performances at Miller Outdoor are free.
Houston Plant Market
Join Houston's official plant market at the Houston Botanic Garden for a daytime market featuring over 40 local plant, craft, art, and food vendors, in addition to educational plant workshops, yoga, and art therapy sessions. Garden admission is included in ticket price: $15/adults and $10/children. The market takes place Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
Houston Dynamo FC vs. New York City FC
The Dynamo take on NYC on Saturday, 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $20.
Hermann Park Conservancy’s Kite Festival
Enjoy a day full of colorful kites, live music, a DJ, interactive games and activities, face painting, and more at Hermann Park on Sunday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Admission is free.
HTX Market at Evelyn's Park
Browse goods from local vendors at Bellaire Open Market at Evelyn’s Park on Sunday, 12-4 p.m.
Houston Dash vs. Racing Louisville
In the season opener of the 2023 NWSL season, the Dash take on Racing Louisville at Shell Energy Stadium. Tickets are $10 and up.
