Azalea gala
More than 600 supporters gathered at the Post Oak Hotel at Uptown for the 2023 Azalea Gala, benefitting Christian Community Service Center (CCSC) and honoring Father Phil Lloyd (pictured, on right), longtime CCSC supporter and pastor of St. Theresa Catholic Church. CCSC president and chief executive officer Michelle Shonbeck (pictured, on left) welcomed guests to the festive event that raised more than $660,000 for the organization’s social-service programs. KHOU-11 News’ Shern-Min Chow was emcee, leading the evening that included local auctioneer Johnny Bravo facilitating a live auction, and music by the Monarch Chamber Players and Stephen Schad of St. Theresa Catholic Church and School. Reverend David Pantermuehl of Grace United Church of Christ gave the invocation and The Reverend Dr. R. Leigh Spruill of The Church of St. John the Divine hosted the evening’s Opportunity to Give. Father Phil accepted his award from CCSC board chair Pastor Clint Reiff of Rice Temple Baptist Church.
