Event Roundup: Spring Break 2024 Edition
Happy Friday! For many families, today is the start of Spring Break 2024. If you’re sticking around town, there are tons of fun activities going on this weekend and throughout the week. Here are some to keep in mind:
River Oaks Garden Club's Azalea Trail 2024: Branch Out
The River Oaks Garden Club’s 2024 Azalea Trail 2024 takes place March 8-10, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., and will celebrate its 87th Anniversary. The biennial Azalea Trail is the primary fundraiser for the River Oaks Garden Club with all proceeds going back into the community supporting multiple organizations. Park for free at The Forum then ride the complimentary round-trip shuttle to all six other locations. Shuttle offers pickup and drop-off at each location. Stops include The Forum of Civics Building and Garden, Bayou Bend Collection & Gardens, and Rienzi. Visit seven gardens for $30; single admission: $10.
Memorial Park's 'The Biggest Picnic in Texas: 100th Birthday Edition'
Memorial Park Conservancy will celebrate the Park’s Centennial in 2024, complete with a Texas-sized birthday party on Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Presented by Chevron, this year’s family-friendly birthday extravaganza will feature picnic festivities, live music and entertainment, an appearance by Houston Astros' mascot Orbit and the Shooting Stars, food and drinks, treats from H-E-B, and kids’ activities that include face painting, arts and crafts, and a magic show. Free shuttle rides will be available from all Memorial Park parking lots, but some areas will require parking fees.
Houston Cougars vs. Kansas at Fertitta Center
Cheer on the Cougars as they play against the Kansas Jayhawks at Fertitta Center, Saturday, 3 p.m. Tickets are $30.
2024 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
Spring Break is a great time for a visit to HLSR, which continues through March 17. Entertainers include Major Lazer (tonight), Lainey Wilson (Saturday), Los Tigres del Norte (Sunday), Whiskey Myers (Monday), Bun B (Tuesday), Nickelback (Wednesday), Zac Brown Band (Thursday), Jonas Brothers (Friday), Brad Paisley (Saturday), and Eric Church (Sunday). Houston Zoo + TXU Energy Presents Dinosaurs
The Zoo will be extending its hours for Spring Break, March 9-17, opening from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., with last entry at 5 p.m. Online reservations for non-members are required. TXU Energy presents Dinosaurs opens today and continues through Sept. 2. Visit the Zoo and come face-to-face with the life-sized animatronic creatures.
Children's Museum Houston's Spring Break Blast
Children’s Museum Houston offers a full lineup of fun, educational, family-friendly activities, including a bungee trampoline, human hamster balls, a confetti party, performances, and more. The schedule includes: Rock the Block – a block party on Saturday; Super MAR10 Day on Sunday, Go Wild Day (including a petting zoo, parrot show, animal yoga, and more) on Monday, and more. Pi Day – Thursday, March 14 – includes the annual pie fight that will leave everyone covered in shaving cream.
Spring Break at Bayou Bend
Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens offers child-friendly activities in the gardens, in the historic house, and at the Lora Jean Kilroy Visitor Center, March 11-15. Highlights include a puppet show, reptile encounter, and petting zoo; activities include art-making activities and outdoor games.
Discovery Green's FUNomenal Spring Break, The Rink at Discovery Green, and Screen on the Green
EOG Resources’ FUNomenal Spring Break offers students an assortment of fun and free educational S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) activities and cultural performances. During spring break, The Rink: Rolling at Discovery Green will be open for extended hours (11 a.m.-11 p.m.). Daily highlights and activities at Discovery Green include Touch a Truck, science demonstrations, drum workshops, dance productions, and more. Spring Break Art-Making at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston
During Spring Break (March 11–15), join educators and artists at MFAH to explore art-making activities inspired by Multiplicity: Blackness in Contemporary American Collage and experiment with new materials, tools, and processes to create your own works of art. The museum offers activities, coloring sheets, colored pencils, and knowledgeable educators.
Spring Break at Evelyn’s Park
Come play at Evelyn's Park! With expansive green space, multiple playgrounds, and a splash pad, it's a perfect Spring Break destination for the whole family. Kid-friendly events taking place during Spring Break include: Circle Time, live music at Betsy’s, Art in the Park, a Children’s Music Class in the Park, Bubbles and Board Games, and more. Spring Break at Levy Park
Levy Park celebrates Spring Break, March 11-15, with a week full of programming for the whole family: Family Storytime & Craft, Children’s Bingo, the Houston Museum of Natural Science, Houston Grand Opera, Japan Junction, Connect 4 Tournaments, Children’s Bingo, the Texas Bubblers, Young Audiences of Houston, and a Scavenger Hunt. All programming at Levy Park is free and open to all ages. All of the park’s amenities will be open and available throughout the week. The Water Feature will run from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. daily, weather permitting.
Mess Makers at Nature Discovery Center: Bubbles & Foam
Visit Nature Discovery Center for outdoor fun anytime over Spring Break. On Sunday, Nature Discovery Center offers its Mess Makers program at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m., for kids ages 3-7 years old with an adult caregiver. During the program, kids will explore and create with messy materials, making works of art as well as just making good old messy fun. Meet at the Pavilions behind the Center. Choose between two time slots: 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. $27 to participate in the program. Free to visit Nature Discovery Center.
Moon 2 Mars Festival
The Moon 2 Mars Festival at Space Center Houston returns for its third year this Spring Break with Wellby Financial returning as presenting sponsor. Moon 2 Mars will be held Weds., March 13 through Saturday, March 16, at Space Center Houston. This year's festival combines high-energy performances by popular rock band The All-American Rejects (Saturday, 7:30 p.m.), in addition to Ancient Cat Society (Weds., 2:30), Gio Chamba (Thurs., 2:30 p.m.) and Bidi Bidi Banda, the Selena Cover Band (Fri., 2:30 p.m.), with innovative and fun space-related activities. Guests will enjoy dancing the day away on the kinetic energy dance floor, robotics, rocket building, and hands-on STEM activities, planetarium and gravity bounce experiences, and daily performances from well-known local DJs. On Friday, March 15, it’s Moon 2 Mars Happy Hour presented by Michelob Ultra with Bidi Bidi Banda who will take the stage at 2:30 p.m. The All-American Rejects perform on Saturday, March 16, at 7:30 p.m.
Spring Break at the Lone Star Flight Museum
The Lone Star Flight Museum offers awesome planes and educational exhibits to explore, plus fun events for the whole family during Spring Break. Highlights include: Plane Games (Sunday), a high-flying version of family game night; heroes in History (Tuesday); Space Race (Wednesday); FLY-Day (Friday). Little ones will love the Toddler Terminal, a fun, new aviation-themed soft play area for toddlers aged 1-4.
