Claire Browning, Hayden Caltagirone, Angie Rodriguez, Lauren Gonzalez, and Gretchen Soika (pictured, from left) competed in the Junior Olympics Water Polo tournament. The athletes were among a team of 13 from Lamar High School who participated in both Texas and California at the gold-medal competition between the nation’s top water polo teams. During the weeklong event, the athletes battled it out in the water with hundreds of other hopeful teams. Teammate Rayce Bagley (not pictured) says the level of competition was initially intimidating, but as they progressed through the games, the Lamar team gained confidence and performed well against top-tier teams.
