Many of us are aware of the challenges a young man or woman experiences when heading off to college: most notably leaving behind everything known. The Touching the Heart initiative aims to help make this transition period as smooth as possible. Periodic cared-based text messages serve as a base point for communication and encouragement to let young adults know they are not alone. Since the successful launch of Touching the Heart for college students, JFS has begun sending text messages to graduating high school seniors in advance of their college departure as well young professionals working throughout the Houston and surrounding area.
Text recipients are students in schools and colleges including Robert M. Beren Academy, Torah Day School, Emery Weiner, Hillel Houston and Austin, St. John’s School, Kinkaid School, Bellaire High School, Memorial High School, Lamar High School, the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, University of Houston, University of Houston Sugarland, University of Texas at Arlington, University of Texas at Austin, Trinity University in San Antonio, University of Richmond, University of Virginia, University of Miami, Indiana University, University of Chicago and Trinity University.
