2015 Chanukah Fest: Menorah Lighting at City Hall
Join Chabad Outreach and the City of Houston to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Lighting the City Hall Menorah and Chanukah Fest. The holiday event will be held on the first night of Chanukah on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2-6 p.m., downtown at Houston City Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
The Chanukah Fest will offer attendees live entertainment including a rock concert by the California-based band 8th Day, a Judah the Maccabee live statue, hands-on booths, demonstrations, fire jugglers and a dreidel mascot. Adults and children will have the chance to participate in array of additional activities with arts and crafts stations, Houston Rockets Fan Zone, rides, raffles and a dazzling food quarter all while raising funds for non-profit organizations in the Houston community. The menorah lighting ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. and will conclude with a fireworks display over City Hall.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Friendship Circle of Houston, Houston Children's Charity and the Houston Food Bank. Several government officials of the city, state and county will attend the holiday destination event including this year's guest speaker, Elyse Lanier, wife of former Mayor Bob Lanier, who was instrumental in the first lighting ceremony in 1995.
