2020 TEACH Virtual Gala

To Educate All Children is going virtual with its gala, Champions for TEACH, on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. The organization’s annual sports-themed fundraiser, Touchdown for TEACH, has been a staple event of the fall for the past seven years, featuring interviews with sports legends like Peyton Manning and Michael Strahan and raising money to assist Houston educators in creating safe, calm classrooms for children. 

This year’s special guest is Steve Kerr, head coach of the Golden State Warriors, eight-time NBA champion, and one of the winningest coaches in NBA history. Kerr has a passion for organizations like TEACH, as both his parents were educators.

The event will be chaired by Carol and Mike Linn and Soraya and Scott McClelland. Kerr’s candid, one-on-one interview with H-E-B President Scott McClelland will be a highlight of the lively, one-hour program. 

“Star Players” Joanne King Herring and Paul Somerville will be recognized for their long-time support of TEACH, which was founded in 2005 by Susan Sarofim and Mary Yenik. In a special segment, the honorees will share ten of their favorite facts about TEACH. 

Carol Linn will lead an appeal for support of TEACH’s mission, providing intensive training and personalized, year-round coaching to support educators and improve student achievement. As children return to school during this difficult year, teachers need the Houston community’s support more than ever.  

Tune in on Nov. 10 to hear Kerr’s predictions for the NBA season, his take on The Last Dance documentary, and which top five NBA players of all time he would include on his championship team. Table sponsors will receive gala essentials including dinner from award-winning Tony’s Restaurant, including wine and Tony’s famous dessert, delivered to their home the day of the event. Top sponsors will also receive floral centerpieces by In Bloom.
