4th Annual HPMA Jazz Fest at POST Houston

The Houston Professional Musicians’ Association, in partnership with the American Federation of Musicians, will host the 4th Annual HPMA Jazz Fest at POST Houston on Sunday, April 27, in celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month. Held across two vibrant venues—Z Atrium near Eden Plant Co. and Outpost—the festival will feature more than 150 musicians from Houston’s esteemed performing arts organizations, including the Houston Symphony, Houston Ballet, Alley Theatre and more.

This year’s event honors Houston-born jazz legend Joe Sample, the Grammy-winning pianist and composer who passed away in 2014. One of the most influential jazz musicians to emerge from Texas, Sample’s music as a solo artist and with The Crusaders was a perfect blend of lush, understated grooves and emotional depth.

His son, Nick Sample, will fly in from Detroit to perform a special tribute at Outpost. The festival is free with RSVP and runs from 12:30 to 8 p.m., showcasing a dynamic lineup of styles from big band and swing to modern jazz and funk.
