7th Annual LibroFest

Families will enjoy the festivities at the 7th Annual LibroFest at the Central Library Barbara Bush Literacy Plaza on Saturday, Sept. 29. People of all ages can discover the sights, sounds and flavors of Houston’s vibrant Hispanic community. This annual fest will feature local organizations, authors and artists for presentations supported by Arte Público, interactive activities, food, music and much more! This event is free and open to the public. 

LibroFest Activities Include:

  • Children’s crafts and interactive activities all day long. The Houston Metropolitan Research Center (HMRC) offers Anthropoesia Writer’s Workshop for budding writers and a fun and easy Book Snake craft.
  • Bilingual Storytimes with Xavier Garza and Gwendolyn Zepeda. Garza is the author of Just One Itsy Bitsy Little Bite / Sólo una mordidita chiquitita, an engaging picture book featuring Day of the Dead, mariachi music and pan dulce!
  • Zepeda is the author of Maya and Annie on Saturdays and Sundays / Los sábados y domingos de Maya y Annie, a sweet story about friendship and blended families!
  • Live musical performances and Undebel Flamenco performance by Mercy Renteria.
  • Today’s Latinx Writers: Out Loud & in Full Bloom present a conversation between local authors Daniel Peña (Bang: A Novel) and Jasminne Méndez (Night-Blooming Jasmin(n)e: Personal Essays and Poetry), and Gwendolyn Zepeda
  • Banned Books Week Feature Film Bless Me, Ultima.
