8th Houston Kidney Action Day

The American Kidney Fund will host its 8th Houston Kidney Action Day on Sunday, Sept. 9. AKF is returning to the community for this annual healthy living event, after last year providing nearly $400,000 in emergency grants to more than 1,600 dialysis patients affected by Hurricane Harvey in Texas. Kidney Action Day continues AKF’s important work in the state and will raise awareness of the high rates of kidney disease in Greater Houston, as well as the importance of healthy living for kidney disease prevention. People of all ages are encouraged to attend this free, family-friendly event.

Free and open to the public, Kidney Action Day offers many visuals and photo ops, including:

  • Free health screenings to check for indicators of kidney disease (blood pressure, glucose and kidney function)
  • Kidney health education
  • Fun fitness activities, including Zumba, line dancing, massages and a hula hoop contest
  • Three healthy cooking demos and food samples
  • Performances by local entertainers
  • Children's activities, including a trampoline, face painting and a balloon artist
