Annual Grand Kids Festival

The Annual Grand Kids Festival - celebrating children, families and folk art – will take center stage in Galveston’s historic downtown Cultural Arts District. Presented by The Grand 1894 Opera House, this one-of-a-kind, family event will take place on Postoffice Street - between 20th and 23rd streets. This year’s theme is “Texas Western.” Admission is free.

Created and presented as a venue to engage children and their families in the arts, the Festival will include a variety of activities for the young, and the young at heart. Festival-goers can look forward to grand live performances and entertainment on four outdoor stages, as well as an exciting variety of fun, family-friendly activities - including new entertainment this year: Cowboy Doug demonstrating his roping skills; Houston children’s musical artist, Uncle Jumbo; and the amazing troupe - Great Promise for American Indians – showcasing traditions, unique stories and literally making their “history come alive” through song and dance.

Also, back by popular demand this Spring will be Chalk It Up Island Style! – a street art competition; Roaring Entertainment RC Cars, and the Southwest Mobile Dairy Classroom. Additional fun activities throughout the 3-block Festival area include pony rides, a petting zoo, a variety of unique, hands-on activities; story-tellers, and so much more.

One of the special highlights of the 26th annual Grand Kids Festival will be the Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) production of Johnny Appleseed. Featuring 50-60 local/area students who auditioned for their roles, performances will be presented on stage at The Grand 1894 Opera House, 2020 Postoffice Street. Performance times are 11AM and 1PM.

Galveston's Grand Kids Festival is recognized as the “largest free, art-focused children's event held on the Gulf Coast." Enjoy the fun! Admission is free.
