Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation's 28th Annual A Celebration of Reading
The Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation's 28th annual A Celebration of Reading will take place Thursday, April 21 at The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston. The annual signature event hosted by Neil and Maria Bush, co-founders of the foundation, will feature an impressive lineup of best-selling authors and shine light on the importance of reading in our community.
The 2022 lineup features bestselling authors including Brad Meltzer, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Escape Artist, The Inner Circle, and 11 other chart-topping thrillers. Meltzer, the only author to appear on the bestsellers list for fiction, nonfiction, advice, children’s, and comic books, will speak about his newest thriller, The Lightning Rod, a Zig and Nola novel set to release on March 8. Twin sisters, Jenna Bush Hager and Barbara Pierce Bush, co-authors of the #1 New York Times bestsellers Sisters First and Sisters First: Stories from Our Wild and Wonderful Life will share Bush family stories and insight on their new book, The Superpower Sisterhood set to release just two days prior to A Celebration of Reading.
Jenna Bush Hager, a host of NBC’s Today Show and an editor-at-large for Southern Living magazine, has also authored Our Great Big Backyard and Read All About It! with her mother, former First Lady Laura Bush. Barbara Pierce Bush is the board chair and cofounder of Global Health Corps. Alafair Burke, former prosecutor and also a New York Times bestselling author, just released her latest standalone novel, Find Me, in January. Burke is also the author of The Better Sister, The Wife, optioned for a feature film by Amazon, and The Ex, which was nominated for the Edgar Award for best novel, and is the co-author of the bestselling Under Suspicion series with Mary Higgins Clark. Dr. Rick Rigsby, author of Lessons from a Third Grade Dropout and Afraid to Hope, is a USA Today, Amazon and Wall Street Journal best-selling author. Dr. Rigsby is also an internationally recognized speaker, who became an Internet sensation when his speech on hope - produced by Goalcast - was viewed by over 300 million people worldwide.
Proceeds from A Celebration of Reading advance the mission of former First Lady Barbara Bush’s legacy championed by the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation, as well as national efforts through the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy of helping more children and adults realize their fullest potential in life and live the American Dream by learning how to read.
