In December 2019, a new coronavirus outbreak was identified. Over the past twelve months, this virus has caused over 85 million confirmed cases of COVID-19, 1.8 million deaths, and has had a huge impact on the social, mental and economic health of communities across the globe. Though masks and social distancing are important tools to slow the spread of infection, an effective vaccine remains the key to reaching herd immunity and stopping the outbreak. And now, just one year after the virus was discovered, the first round of vaccinations is underway.
