Congregation Emanu El Sisterhood’s Music of the Night
Chaired by Kathy Parven, Congregation Emanu El Sisterhood will hold its annual fundraiser for all to enjoy - “Music of the Night – a little bit of Purim, a lot of Broadway” a masked affair honoring Dolores Wilkenfeld on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 7:30 p.m. at Congregation Emanu El. The exciting event will feature Broadway stars, Andrea McArdle - the original "Annie" and Adam Pascal, star from "Rent,” hosted and accompanied by Sirius XM's Broadway commentator Seth Rudetsky. Students from TUTS’ The River will also perform as the event shines the spotlight on inclusion in the theatre arts.
This year's honoree, Dolores Wilkenfeld, served as president of Emanu El's Sisterhood from 1961-1963 and as president of the congregation from 1983 - 1985. She was president of what is now known as Women of Reform Judaism and the World Union for Progressive Judaism as well as other organizations. She tutored hundreds of Bar and Bat Mitzvah students for over 5O years, making an indelible impression on students and parents alike. Dolores has been honored by many organizations, including the Houston Assembly of Delphian Chapters, Houston Joint Committee for Reform Judaism in Israel, Jewish National Fund and many more.
A portion of each ticket will be donated to TUTS’ The River in Houston, and the Actors Fund. The River provides affordable, accessible arts education to individuals with disabilities and their siblings. It includes programming for young adults, an inclusive performance troupe that performs events across the city.
The Actors Fund is a national human services organization that fosters stability and resiliency and provides a safety net for performing arts and entertainment professionals. Since the start of the pandemice in March 2020, The Fund has helped more than 40,000 people in the performing arts community from performers, to backstage personnel to ushers.
Emanu El's Sisterhood is an active group with almost four hundred members that host a variety of events and programs throughout the community. They are committed to community service and social action including a partnership with The River to provide volunteer opportunities for members.
A fabulous dessert reception will follow the show along with a special cocktail party for "young-ish" congregants. Be sure to wear a fun Purim mask!
