Discovery Green will host Xfinity Día de los Muertos on Friday, Nov. 1, 2019, 6-10 p.m. The festival celebrates Day of the Dead, a Mexican holiday where families and friends gather to celebrate, remember and prepare special foods in honor of those who are no longer living.

The family-friendly event features hands-on art activities, art cars and cultural performances. It culminates in a procession to the festival’s centerpiece: A custom, three-tiered altar - designed by Houston street artist and muralist Angel Quesada - where visitors are invited to place items associated with their departed loved ones. Other highlights include music from DJ Gracie Chavez and La Comadre Mel from BOMBON, performances by Danzas Folkloricas de Solei and Nueva Luna Ballet Folklorico, a large calavera (skull) created by Houston artist Gonzo247 and mojigangas (giant papier mâché puppets), courtesy of Thomas Pascal Will Robinson.

The Grove will offer a $10 Corzo Tequila Old Fashioned, a simple but delicious drink that uses premium Corzo Añejo Tequila mixed with lime peel, orange bitters and simple syrup. It is served over an ice sphere and garnished with a Luxardo cherry.
