Dia de los Muertos at the Houston Zoo

Día de los Muertos La Catrina

Celebrate Día de los Muertos at the Houston Zoo for the chance to see La Catrina, a joyful and colorful figure celebrating life and death.

Gather your family and join us for a special celebration of Día de los Muertos at the Houston Zoo. Stroll through the Zoo and enjoy glowing decorations, festive photo ops, and a chance to see La Catrina, one of the most recognizable symbols of the Día de los Muertos holiday.

At the heart of the event is a traditional ofrenda (altar) created to honor animals who are no longer with us. Families are invited to bring a photo of a cherished animal to add to the altar, creating a touching community tribute filled with love and memories.

Stop by our craft station, where kids and adults alike can draw or create artwork of their favorite animal to include. It’s a fun and meaningful way for the whole family to take part in this beautiful tradition.

The Zoo will be open for extended hours from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., with last entry at 8:00 p.m.
