Discovery Green Presents Musical Performances Inspired by 'Hello, Trees! A Walking Serenade'

On select Fridays in February, Discovery Green presents musical performances inspired by Hello, Trees! A Walking Serenade, a temporary site-specific art installation by Daily tous les jours. The work translates voices into light patterns and musical melodies, which travel down arches
that stretch the length of the park’s iconic Brown Foundation Promenade. 

On Friday, Feb. 9, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Kam Franklin, lead singer of the Suffers, and Lisa E. Harris, performance and visual artist and composer, present “PAUSE,” an innovative, interactive program that fuses song and spoken word. Standing at input stations located at each end of the sculpture, Franklin and Harris will sing to each other and to the trees that form Discovery Green’s live oak alée. Audience members are invited to stroll through the installation or sit and take in the experience under the canopy.

On Friday, Feb. 16, 6:30-8:30 p.m., the Houston Grand Opera presents “Harmony of Trees.” Composer Austin Brake has selected text representing the 10 most spoken languages in Houston. Audience members are invited to choose a phrase and voice type from the menus located at
each input station; one of two soloists with HGOco will sing the phrase as guests walk along the promenade to see and hear the message’s progression through the installation.
