Friends of Down Syndrome’s Cinderella Ball

Friends of Down Syndrome’s Cinderella Ball

Cinderella Ball 2017 Prince Charming Kenny Bruheim and Cinderella Gwendolyn Friedman celebrate winning their titles last March.

Friends of Down Syndrome presents its fourth annual Cinderella Ball March 24, 2018, at the Red Oak Ballroom at Houston CityCentre’s Red Oak Ballroom. The ball is held annually in March to commemorate World Down Syndrome Day, which is observed on March 21 to raise public awareness of Down syndrome.

This year’s fundraising goal is $150,000, with all proceeds going toward Friends of Down Syndrome’s capital campaign to build a permanent home for the organization and its Down Syndrome Academy, a school for teens and adults with Down syndrome in the Houston area.

Some of those teens and adults are competing to be named Prince Charming or Cinderella at the ball. To win the titles, they must raise the most money for the nonprofit. All candidates are practicing their social skills and a dance routine to perform at the ball.

In addition to a formal dinner and cash bar, there will be dancing, a silent auction and raffle. Tim Heller, chief meteorologist for KTRK Channel 13 in Houston, will once again serve as master of ceremonies.

Friends of Down Syndrome invites the community to join in by purchasing tickets today here. (Click on “Find Team,” then go to “Tickets/Sponsorships” on your chosen candidate’s page.) Tickets are $125. Sponsorships are also available. Can’t make the ball? You can still make a donation or buy raffle tickets.
