Grammy Award-Winner Ricky Kej: One Earth Concert
On Saturday, March 12, 2022, world-renowned Indian music composer and environmentalist Ricky Kej will perform his global "One Earth Concert" at the Wortham Theater Center to kick-off Houston’s Indo-American Association’s star-studded 2022 Performance Season. The Indo-American Association (IAA) is Houston’s longest-running arts organization with a mission to preserve and promote the performing arts of the Indian sub-continent – founded in 1993.
In 2015, Ricky Kej won a Grammy at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards for his album Winds of Samsara, which has propelled him to perform on stages around the globe, including more than 30 countries and the United Nations. In Houston, his signature sound and performance – focused on the environment – will be accompanied by other Grammy Nominees including Lonnie Park as well as musician Keith Middleton of “Stomp” from New York.
The Indo-American Association, a nonprofit organization, has presented a broad range of entertainment and educational arts programs from the Indian sub-continent in order to preserve cultural heritage for future generations and to enrich quality and diversity of life in the Houston community. Its 2022 Performance Season also includes singer, songwriter and music composer, Abby V; the versatile Queen of Flute and Nightingale of Music, Rasika Shekar; choreographer, Bharatanatyam dancer, and film actress, Rukmini Vijaykumar; artists from South America, Victor Murillo, Louis Quintano, and Edwardo Cassipia, performing with Indrajit Bannerjee and Pt. Gouri Shankar from India; renowned violinist and composer Dr. L. Subramaniam performing with the Houston Symphony; Indian Raga; Ustad Shujaat Khan; and “Ye Jo Desh Hai Mera,” a Niche Entertainment Production which will mark the Thousand Lights for Peace celebration in collaboration with the Eternal Gandhi Museum of Houston (EGMH).
